Is CBD Oil a Key Ingredient for Healthier Hair?

CBD has been shown to have a number of health benefits, which extend to hair and scalp. In addition, CBD oil is packed with antioxidants, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals that improve hair health.

It has been clinically proven that CBD (cannabidiol) offers a number of therapeutic advantages. Several cannabinoids present in cannabis, including CBD, have been used medicinally for thousands of years, although usually to treat physical and psychological pain. However, recently they have also begun to be used to develop thicker and stronger hair.

Some new hair care products currently contain CBD, and experts insist that cannabidiol could be a key ingredient in maintaining healthier hair. Although there are few studies on the effectiveness of CBD for hair care, industry experts believe that CBD offers several advantages in this area.

CBD has several properties that could contribute to hair health. For starters, CBD oil is rich in amino acids, antioxidants and fatty acids, and it is known that all these compounds improve strength and endurance of hair.

The amino acids in CBD oil are the main components of proteins, which can strengthen and protect hair follicles. CBD oil can also moisturize hair, preventing hair strands from drying out and breaking during the dry winter months. The oil can also prevent hair from being damaged and brittle by reducing friction. In addition, CBD oil contains vitamins and antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C and E, and minerals such as phosphorus, potassium and magnesium.

CBD oil, contains nutritious fatty acids such as omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9. It also contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which has been proven to promote hair growth.

In addition, the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD may help treat certain skin and scalp conditions, including psoriasis and dermatitis. A recent study, from 2018, found that cannabinoids have the potential to treat a number of skin diseases, ranging from acne to pruritus. Hair experts believe that CBD has the potential to treat similar conditions that affect the scalp.

CBD products are not a miraculous remedy for hair loss. However, it is believed that CBD can help hair in the same way as a healthy and balanced diet, with abundant vitamins and antioxidants.

In cases of hair loss, the scalp is full of toxins and inflamed cells that could restrict or inhibit the growth of healthy hair. CBD oil will not only repair these inflamed cells, but will also act as a moisturizing agent. On the other hand, it has also been shown that it plays a role in the regulation of sebum production of the scalp. By keeping the scalp clean and reducing inflammation, it is believed that CBD could help with certain types of hair loss. In addition, the ability of CBD to repair damaged skin cells, and boost cell regeneration for skin conditions, could also help with baldness.

Here are a few benefits of CBD oil for your hair:

  1. Enhance hair growth. CBD contains nutrients that boost hair growth, Mollie says. “CBD helps stimulate and enhance the growth of hair through the scalp’s absorption of the main fatty acids, Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9. [It also] contains GLA (gamma linoleic acid) which promotes natural hair growth.”
  2. Strengthen and protect hair. Hair strands are made out of protein, which is why experts recommend a protein treatment for weak, broken hair. CBD oil contains all 21 amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein. When used regularly, it can help strengthen and fortify your hair. Also, CBD is full of fatty acids that provide moisture and seal the cuticle. It’s rich in antioxidants, too, like vitamins A, C and E, so it helps to protect the hair from environmental damage.
  3. Improve scalp health. “CBD contains high doses of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and vitamin E – all of which are great for the scalp,” Mollie said. It’s also a natural anti-inflammatory, which makes it ideal for common scalp conditions like psoriasis or follucilitis. Moreover, it balances your scalp’s natural production of sebum (or oil), whether you have too much or too little.“CBD is an adaptogen, meaning it regulates sebum production so it is great for oily, dry or normal hair types,” Mollie explained. “It helps to address dry, flaky scalp as well as eczema and psoriasis.”

Although CBD may not be the cure for your hair problems, it can protect and strengthen your hair in several ways. Hair experts are convinced that CBD has a role to play, although they still don't know exactly which one. Many are confident that further research on the medical applications of cannabinoids will be made, especially in regards to skin and hair problems. In any case, there is no evidence to suggest that CBD can damage hair, while there is an increasing number of anecdotal evidence that cannabidiol can help.
